Food For Thought

So much depends

upon

A long wooden

spoon

Neighboring a silver sauce

pan

Boiling with salted

water

There is one thing that food is famous for, and that is bringing people together. I am the youngest of six with a 20 year age gap between me and my eldest brother. My mom always talks about how my siblings had very busy schedules between school, wrestling, swimming, cross country and dance practice. But no matter what the family always had dinner together. That’s true even today, because no matter how late my ballet classes go, my mom and dad will always wait to have dinner with me. This poem reflects not only the comfort food that will emerge from that boiling water but the togetherness it will bring. So much depends on one meal. It doesn’t matter if it’s pasta or rice or a fancy ten course dinner. We must admit that when we eat food it’s better when we eat it with the people we love.
